The Technologies Department at AIS offers a wide range of programs in Computing, Food, Design, Textiles, and Construction for students in Years 7 to 12. The department delivers courses through the Australian Curriculum, IGCSE, HSC, IB, and New South Wales vocational education programs, providing options to suit diverse interests and needs.
The department equips students with modern and traditional tools for both design and production. Using project-based learning methodologies, the programs engage and involve students, guiding them from asking key questions about why things happen to discover how to solve problems. Regardless of the material chosen, students undertake individual projects through investigation, ideation, development, and delivery, while examining the impact of design on the world.
The curriculum suits individuals who enjoy creating and problem-solving. Units include woodwork and plastics, food, fashion and interiors, and computing-based projects such as development and coding. Students work with a variety of tools, including traditional hand tools, laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machines, robots, drones, plastics recycling and forming equipment, domestic and industrial kitchen tools and appliances, sewing machines, sublimation printers, and digital embroidery machines.
