Visual Arts, Music, Drama

The Australian International School Singapore (AIS) provides a comprehensive Secondary visual arts, music and drama program for students in Years 6 to 12 that reflects our commitment to holistic learning as an IB World School. In Year 6, students explore visual arts and music.  In Years 7 to 8,  the art subjects rotate by semester to allow students to unleash their creativity, and talents and foster confidence. In Years 9-12, students can specialise in the arts of their choice under the guidance of expert faculty.

We have a passionate community of art enthusiasts and offer over 50 art Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programs that allow students to live their passions in string ensembles, jazz bands, 3D design and printing graphic design, private instrument programs, speech and drama, Chinese calligraphy, and our popular large-scale theatre performances and more!

An exceptional art program thrives on access to top-tier facilities. The Australian International School Singapore offers resources and bespoke spaces designed to nurture artists of all levels, from novices to emerging professionals. Our magnificent Coral Dixon Theater delivers an authentic professional performance experience, featuring state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems.

In addition, students can access:

Visual Arts

The Secondary Visual Art program actively engages students in project-based learning, fostering creative thinking and problem-solving skills while promoting awareness and interest in the Visual Arts. Each unit of work focuses on a concept or area of investigation, encouraging students to develop critical and creative thinking. Students analyse artworks and artists from ancient times through the traditional period, the modern and postmodern periods, and contemporary practice.

This course empowers students to express their ideas and interests about the world, engage in contemporary forms of communication, and reflect on and write about their experiences. Common themes connect practical and theoretical work, giving students the flexibility to explore new artmaking approaches. With the excellent facilities in our Visual Arts Department, students produce a wide range of artworks in mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, film, animation, photography, graphic design, and sculpture.

Music

The Australian International School nurtures talented young individuals to inspire audiences with their musicality. With dedicated programs covering 21 instruments and extensive choir and voice opportunities, our students can participate as beginner musicians or join professional ensembles that extend the skills of our most accomplished artists.

We believe that music education is essential to the holistic development of every child. It enhances emotional well-being, fosters critical thinking and teamwork, develops motor skills, and ignites a lifelong passion for music.

From their earliest days in the Early Years program to their graduation from AIS, your child embarks on a progressive musical journey that prepares them to enjoy, participate in, or work in the arts. Our passionate specialist teachers deliver personalised musical programs, promoting the highest standards of artistic excellence and helping your child become an accomplished musician.

We take pride in our musicians’ achievements and look forward to inspiring your child.

Drama

The Drama curriculum and CCA offerings at AIS provide diverse and exciting opportunities for students to investigate, explore, create, and perform live theatre. Covering issue-based topics, world theatre, and various performance skills, these courses develop confidence, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively through dramatic expression.

All students in Years 7 and 8 study Drama as part of the curriculum, and many choose to continue their Drama studies as an elective in Years 9 and 10. At the HSC and IB Diploma levels, students undertake two-year courses that cultivate important lifelong skills fostered by an arts education.

Our comprehensive drama program is supported by:

  • A state-of-the-art Theatre
  • Instruction by specialist drama staff
  • Participation in yearly dramatic productions
  • CCA Drama clubs (such as musical theatre and LAMDA)
  • Visiting artists-in-residence and live performances
