Global Festival 2024
The Global Festival is an annual event where we celebrate our school’s different cultures and traditions. While we embrace our diversity every day of the school year, the Global Festival is a special occasion when the whole school comes together to celebrate over 50 different nationalities! All students and teachers wear their cultural clothing or national dress and take part in a series of performances and workshops.
Opening Ceremony
The event began with a warm welcome from the AIS Kapa Haka Group, who greeted Mr. Keith Conway, Deputy New Zealand High Commissioner to Singapore, and His Excellency Allaster Cox, Australian High Commissioner to Singapore. The group presented a wero/token to show that they come in peace and stand in unity with the AIS community. Principal Adam Patterson addressed the students, emphasising the importance of celebrating our diverse backgrounds and what this day means to AIS.
A Musical Showcase
The festival featured an impressive array of student performances, including Irish dancing, a live band, traditional Indian dance, hip-hop dance, and more. Each performance was a testament to the talent and cultural richness of our school community.
Cultural Workshops
A variety of workshops were available for students to participate in, including:
- Creating Japanese Koinobori (carp streamers)
- Indonesian Batik workshop
- Irish Dancing
- New Zealand Ti Rakau Maori Stick Game
- Korean K-Pop dance
These workshops provided an opportunity for students to learn about and engage with different cultural practices.
Cultural Feasts
The AIS Parents’ Association managed food stalls that offered a diverse array of cuisines, including Australian, Chinese, Korean, Singaporean, Brazilian, Japanese, Indian, and many more. This culinary journey allowed everyone to savour the flavours of the world and appreciate the culinary heritage of different cultures.
The Global Festival 2024 was a vibrant and joyous celebration of our school’s cultural diversity. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and unity, reminding us of the beauty in our differences and the strength in our community. We look forward to continuing this tradition and celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our school.
