FLOX Unveils Mesmerising Mural at Australian International School
In a collaborative effort with the NZ Chambers, the Australian International School played host to the renowned aerosol and stencil artist FLOX, also known as Hayley King, from November 13 to 17 2023. With a fine art degree in hand, Hayley has been leaving her artistic imprint on the world since 2003.
Hailing from New Zealand, FLOX’s artistic journey spans across continents, including Munich, Berlin, Hong Kong, New York, Taiwan, India, and the US. However, her latest masterpiece, a vibrant mural, stands as the first and only of its kind in Singapore.
A Celebration of Art and Education
In honour of the Australian International School’s 30th anniversary in 2023, a visually striking mural was commissioned to commemorate this milestone. FLOX, celebrated for her bold and expressive use of colour, emerged as the ideal artist for the project.
Known for magically transforming dull walls into vibrant depictions of the natural world, Hayley, or FLOX, has earned a distinguished reputation. The mural, set against a thoughtfully curated colour palette, serves as a visual celebration of positivity, nature, vibrancy, and tranquillity amidst the bustling school environment. Aptly titled ‘The Garden of Oz,’ the mural adds a vibrant and artistic touch to the school’s surroundings.
Nature Unleashed in Colour
Utilising stencils and spray paint, FLOX brought to life a breathtaking display of Australian birds and native flora. The mural features the graceful Flying Galah, the vivid Flying Rainbow Lorikeet, and iconic symbols like the Warratah and Banksia, all contributing to the immersive depiction of nature within the school’s walls.
Hayley’s connection with the students was not confined to her artistic endeavours. She spent valuable time interacting with the young minds, including Year 11 students studying the International Baccalaureate and the Year 9 Secondary students currently immersed in the study of murals. Sharing insights into her global journey as a creative practitioner, she expressed, “We feel very lucky to travel the world painting and to be doing what we enjoy. It was special for me to talk with the kids about my journey, hopefully inspiring some of these next generations coming through.”
A Lasting Legacy
FLOX’s mural at the Australian International School is not just a piece of art; it’s a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering creativity and embracing the vibrant energy that art brings. As the mural becomes a permanent fixture, it will undoubtedly inspire generations of students, reminding them of the power of art to transcend boundaries and leave an indelible mark on the world.
