AIS Charity Events 2024: A Year of Giving Back

At the Australian International School (AIS), fostering a sense of community and social responsibility is at the heart of education. In 2024, students of all ages came together to make a meaningful impact through various charity initiatives. Here’s a closer look at some of the inspiring events that took place:

Cycling for a Cause: A Young Student’s Determination

Six-year-old AJ took on an incredible challenge—cycling 128 kilometres around Singapore to raise funds for the Angkor Kids Centre (AKC) in Cambodia. Inspired by her visit to the centre, she set out to make a difference and successfully raised $6,132. The funds will go toward essential repairs, solar panel replacements, and staff funding at AKC, ensuring a better learning environment for local children.

Spreading Joy with an Arts & Crafts Donation Drive

Creativity met kindness as AIS elementary students organised a festive arts and crafts donation drive for Child at Street 11, a preschool supporting children from lower-income families. With a curated shopping list in hand, students gathered supplies like paintbrushes, Play-Doh, and origami paper, wrapped them festively, and donated them to bring joy and creativity to young learners.

Schools 4 Schools: Fundraising for Education in Nepal and India

For over 17 years, AIS’s Schools 4 Schools (S4S) initiative has supported education programs in Nepal and India. In 2024, Year 11 students continued the tradition by hosting bake sales, movie nights, and talent shows to raise funds. A dedicated group also travelled to Nepal, where they helped renovate classrooms, teach local students, and engage in cultural exchanges, strengthening global connections through education.

Standing in Solidarity: The Sharks Shave Event

AIS once again hosted its annual Sharks Shave event, where students and teachers shaved their heads to show solidarity with those battling cancer. More than just a symbolic gesture, this initiative raised over $6,000 for LOVE, NILS, an organisation dedicated to supporting children with cancer and their families. The event reinforced AIS’s commitment to compassion and community.

A Future of Compassionate Leadership

Through these initiatives, AIS continues to cultivate socially conscious students who understand the importance of giving back. Whether through fundraising, hands-on service projects, or creative donation drives, AIS students are making a real difference in the lives of others. We look forward to seeing even more inspiring efforts in the years to come!
