Nurturing Futures: Career Counselling at AIS
At AIS, we understand that each student’s journey is unique, which is why our dedicated Careers & University Counsellors provide personalised support tailored to individual aspirations and interests. Whether navigating through IGCSE, ESSPP, SPP, IB Diploma, or HSC options, seeking work experience placements, or preparing for university applications, our team is committed to guiding students towards fulfilling futures.
Personalised Mentorship from Year 10 Onwards
From the pivotal Year 10 onwards, students are paired with a university counsellor who serves as a mentor throughout their academic tenure. This bespoke service ensures that students’ interests remain at the forefront of all decisions, empowering them to make informed choices about their educational and professional pathways.
Early and Strategic University Application Planning
In addition to individualised guidance, AIS fosters an environment rich in opportunities for students to explore higher education options. Regular visits from universities offer invaluable insights through talks, information sessions, and workshops, enriching students’ understanding of diverse academic paths and career prospects. Moreover, our annual Tertiary University Fair opens doors for Year 9 to 12 students to interact directly with representatives from various institutions, facilitating informed decision-making and networking opportunities.
Tips from our Career Counsellors
Drawing from their expertise and experience, our career counsellors offer invaluable advice to students aspiring to enter universities:
- Grades are not everything: While academic performance is important, universities also value well-rounded individuals. Emphasising holistic development through community service and co-curricular activities can significantly enhance one’s university application.
- Engage in meaningful CCAs or activities aligned with interests, preferably connected to a desired field of study after secondary school. This demonstrates students’ commitment beyond academics and strengthens their profile for university applications.
- Start the application process early: Planning and preparation are key to a successful university application. By starting early, students can navigate deadlines, gather required documentation, and craft compelling personal statements that reflect their unique strengths and aspirations.
- Be well prepared for the interview: Interviews provide an opportunity for students to showcase their personality, communication skills, and readiness for higher education. Preparation and practice are essential to making a positive impression on admissions committees.
At AIS, we are committed to nurturing the aspirations of our students and equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and support to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape. With personalised mentorship, engagement with visiting universities, and expert guidance from our career counsellors, we empower our students to confidently pursue their dreams and embark on fulfilling academic and professional journeys.
